Moving in to Strata

If you have just moved into a strata titled property, it can be quite daunting not knowing these people you see quite often.  It makes sense for you to try and be a part of the community, here’s a few hints and tips that will see you making lifelong friends and being a part of building a thriving community for your building.

Get to the meetings and vote

As a lot owner in a strata title, you have every right to attend AGM’s and vote on important matters. It would be a great idea to head along to meetings have your say and listen to what others have to say. Make sure you’re informed about the items you’re voting on by reading the literature that will be sent out before the meeting.  Having a great group of like-minded people getting together to help and vote on what happens at the Corporation is a sure-fire way to create an amazing community for all of the people that are living under the same title.

Handling disagreements

Living in such a tight knit community can lead to conflict if owners have different goals, and see things differently from one another.  It’s always a good idea to try and come to a mutually agreeable understanding as quickly as possible so as not to draw it out and possibly create bad blood between you and the party involved.  You have to ask yourself about the issue at hand and see how it affects yourself and then see it from the other owner’s point of view as well and see which outcome is the best for both of you.  Unfortunately not every disagreement will be able to be solved in this manner, if this is the case you should most certainly talk to your buildings Chairperson or head to your strata manager to ask them for advice on the matter, as they’ll likely have a great understanding of everything that is happening.

Celebrate

The world is a diverse and multi-faceted place and your building is probably the same. There will be people who are young, old, have different ideas of fun, deal with matters differently, it’s a melting pot of cultures, lifestyles and ideas which is great, you should celebrate the fact that you’re a part of this community and do your best to get along, and build something that you can all be proud of for the future.  Get out there, meet your neighbours, have a drink, share a BBQ and enjoy your building.
