The Green Star for Homes Standard
The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is currently developing a standard of building that will change the house building industry here in Australia. Making new homes built adhere to a set of guidelines that will make the new homes being built more ‘green’ and helping to reduce carbon emissions while making the homes more comfortable for their occupants.
Some of the things required in the Green Star for Homes guidelines are Double glazed windows and doors as standard, Air filtration systems, LED lighting, renewable energy generation and good access to natural light in living areas, among other things.
The GBCA have been working with industry professionals and leaders since 2002 to help create voluntary guidelines that have made businesses and apartments more efficient, comfortable and safe environments for the people of Australia. Now they’re turning their attention to houses. Developers have previously jumped at the chance to create buildings that are efficient and comfortable for the people who use them and now they are helping the people remain comfortable at home and help reduce the carbon footprint even further. There are a number of big building groups on board such as Metricon, Mirvac, Stockland and others, to help pilot the program as they look to get it completed and released in the near future.
Green Star helped bring forth a revolution in building here in Australia, where you don’t have to rely on heating or cooling all year round but by building smart, the same effects can be achieved with minimal use of expensive heating and cooling systems. They’re looking to increase their mark on the industry by making the Green Star rating system voluntary for new houses being built in the future.
