Woodville Road Upgrade
There has been a proposal for a massive upgrade to Woodville Road which could bring a lot of business and turn the current tired old road in to a cultural hub of the area with, among other things, wider footpaths, landscaped medians and a large sculpture at the entry to Woodville Road with the civic center getting a large plaza upgrade as well.
Should the proposal go ahead, the current on street parking will be taken away and replaced with off peak street parking. The parking spaces will be relocated to the Port Road median, while park-and-ride is scheduled to be established north of the train station, along with a lot of new parks at the suggested development site. There are currently 650 parks on and around Woodville Road but with the upgrade there is potential for 737 parks.
There is a plan for 2 large plazas – one out the front of the civic center, and one next to the planned development. The plazas are planned to be shaded by trees, have opportunities for alfresco dining and will also contain bespoke bench style seating along with low wall type seating with landscaped greenery. The plaza at the civic center will also contain green walls on the side of the building to add even more greenery to the forecourt area.
There is going to be a large overhaul to the current lighting systems on Woodville road too, with more street lighting, adding up lights to feature building and trees, there is also plans to add projections to be displayed on the town hall. Artworks will also be well lit. The idea is to make Woodville Road more of an appealing night spot for the local restaurants and people travelling to and from the city.
The proposed upgrade will bring a huge overhaul to the road and has the potential to make Woodville Road the cultural hub of the area, with beautiful trees lining the streets, gorgeous up lighting and incredible sculpture and artworks which could bring a lot of people to the businesses of the area.
